Active Provider Network Development

Araya does not own or have financial interest in any of the pharmacies that provide prescription drugs to our client’s members. Because of this, Araya’s network development efforts center on negotiating aggressive discounts from providers and selecting the most appropriate distribution channel, not maximizing revenue for the dispensing provider.

Araya offers provider network options tailored to client specific needs. With no financial interest in the delivery system, Araya is able to restrict or expand the network options in our community pharmacy, mail order pharmacy, specialty pharmacy offerings or non-traditional options. Araya also creates and manages select provider networks that offer our clients deeper discounts in return for increased volume to preferred vendors. We offer mail order and specialty pharmacy options through established preferred provider relationships. Clients are permitted to access these contracts or select vendors independently.

Access to the provider network is just the start. Araya works with our clients to determine the most appropriate mix of providers based on member demographics, benefit design and financial considerations. For example:

  • Mail order offers the deepest discounts but may not be the best option for a population with high turnover or unsecure delivery options.
  • Clients with access to in-house pharmacies may be able to purchase medication at or below network rates and be better served by supplying prescriptions to their members directly.
  • Araya has relationships with specialty pharmacy providers that offer a cost plus model that features a flat dispensing fee for the pharmacy regardless of the cost of the medication.
  • Many of Araya’s clients choose international pharmacy options that allow members to leverage personal reimportation laws, saving both the member and the client.

Araya strives to understand our client’s environment and help them make the appropriate choice.
